Description

Solution Architect - Data and Integration.

Join a leading organisation driving digital transformation across both corporate IT and operational technology environments. As the Data and Integration Architect, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing scalable, secure, and future-ready architecture that supports critical business operations, analytics, and decision-making.

Location: Sydney (Hybrid work flexibility)
Reporting to: Enterprise Architecture Lead
Dotted Line Reporting: Group Manager, Enterprise Data & Analytics
Team Size: No direct reports
Industry: Mining / Utilities / Infrastructure

This is a senior architecture role responsible for defining and guiding enterprise-wide data and integration architecture across a complex, asset-intensive environment.

You'll work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Data & Analytics, Engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure data flows securely and reliably across operational systems, integration platforms, and analytics layers - from source systems through to reporting and insight.

The role also plays a key part in architecture governance, contributing to the Architecture Review Board (ARB), uplifting data maturity, and acting as a trusted advisor on integration strategy, data governance, security, and emerging technologies, including AI enablement.

  • Define and maintain enterprise data and integration architecture frameworks, standards, and reference patterns.
  • Design and govern scalable integration solutions, including APIs, event-based integration, and data pipelines across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Provide architectural oversight across platforms including Boomi, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Coalesce.
  • Ensure strong alignment between integration, analytics, and reporting layers, including Power BI semantic models and enterprise reporting standards.
  • Champion data governance, metadata, lineage, and lifecycle management, supporting the rollout of a formal Data Governance platform (e.g. Alation or KADA).
  • Guide delivery teams to ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and architectural standards.
  • Contribute to ARB decisions and architecture assurance across integration and data initiatives.
  • Evaluate and advise on emerging technologies, including API strategy, MCPs, and AI-ready architecture patterns.
  • Collaborate across IT, OT, and business teams, balancing strategic intent with practical delivery.
  • Mentor engineers and designers, supporting capability uplift across data and integration disciplines.

This organisation is an Azure-first environment, with a modern data and integration stack including:

  • Integration: Boomi (core), APIs, event-based patterns
  • Data & Analytics: Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Coalesce
  • Reporting & BI: Power BI (models and reports)
  • Cloud & Platform: Microsoft Azure
  • Low-Code / Automation: Power Apps, Power Automate
  • Data Governance (incoming): Alation or KADA

Knowledge of API design, integration patterns, and AI-forward architectures will be highly regarded as the platform continues to evolve.

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in data and integration architecture within complex enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on architectural knowledge across integration platforms, data pipelines, analytics platforms, and reporting layers.
  • Experience working in asset-intensive or operational environments (e.g. utilities, infrastructure, mining) is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, and architecture assurance.
  • Ability to influence and operate effectively within a matrixed reporting structure.
  • Experience uplifting architecture capability in low-to-mid data maturity environments.
  • Certifications such as TOGAF, DAMA CDMP, or Microsoft Azure credentials are advantageous.

Open to step-up candidates:

We are open to experienced Solution Designers or early-career Solution Architects looking to step into an enterprise architecture role, provided they come from a mature architecture environment and hold TOGAF certification. Strong mentoring support will be provided by the EA Lead.

  • Occasional travel to regional sites may be required; a driver's licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial.
  • This role offers strong visibility, influence, and the opportunity to shape how data and integration architecture comes to life at scale.
