Our global client is hiring for a Public Policy Specialist to join the organisation. The successful candidate will be supporting our client's engagements on anti-trust/competition policy in Australia, as well as broader economic policy priorities including AI-related policy.
The successful candidate will proactively create and manage responses to public policy issues, drive external engagement efforts, and ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. The successful candidate will collaborate with external partners and internal business units, particularly start-up business units, to develop strategies that address policy risks to the business, coordinating across regional and global teams.
This is an initial 12 month contract.
Role Title: Public Policy Specialist (External Engagement)
Contract Length: 12 months initial contract.
Daily Pay: $850 - $900 Inclusive of super per day.
Location: Preferably Sydney, other locations considered.
Role Requirements:
- Preparing materials to assist with the team's engagement in a range of competition policy processes, including analysis, position papers, briefing documents, research proposals and written submissions.
- Building and implementing strategies to deepen relationships with external partners and customers, with a focus on startup customers.
- Working collaboratively across local and global policy teams and with internal stakeholders across functions.
- Liaising with external stakeholders, including agencies, consultants, industry associations and academics, while proactively developing ethical relationships with individuals influencing or developing policy for government.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required: Economics, Law, Public Administration, Political Science, or similar.
- 5+ years of relevant public policy, legal or advocacy experience, e.g. within corporate government relations or public policy, in economic consulting, public administration, industry associations or non-governmental organizations.
- A track record of successful public engagements or representing your organization in meetings, including on technology, competition, or AI.
- Ability to maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous circumstances.
- Project management experience.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated ability to be both a substantive issue expert on matters related to competition policy in the retail and/or technology sectors.
- Policy experience in AI and ML.
- Familiarity with AU and Australian startup ecosystem.
- Extensive high-level networking capabilities.
- A good sense of humour!
Our client's preference is that candidates be based in or around the Greater Sydney Area (NSW), but candidates in other locations around Australia will also be considered. Candidates must possess existing full working rights - Permanent Resident or Citizen of Australia.
